Through time, there have been people "defending" English, because according to them it is being ruined. Who are the ruiners? Depends on who you ask. The media, teachers and parents have all taken the blame. Recently, TV, radio and newspapers have been taking the heat though.

They say that journalists have no respect for the propriety of language, and that spoken language on TV and radio is sloppy.

The 'dirty fingernails fallacy' claims that journalists don't pay enough attention to language details, they never bother to scrub their linguistic fingernails clean.

Some words simply have multiple ways of saying or writing them, and when someone in the news uses the wrong one according to readers, angry letters are sure to be sent in.

People think that articles in the paper are junk writing, too long and too slow to get to the point, but this is of course completely incorrect. Newspaper articles are specifically written to tell a story as quickly and simply as possible.
